Tight as hell

kick-ass track ya got there.
There is a lot of diversity in the synth, very hard, whilst being laid back, I liked that.
Has a real nice industrial feel, probably should have gone in there, I feel that much more than DnB.
The retriggering and glitching you have in there sounds real good.
Definitely gotta say I like what I hear here.
5/5 keep up the good work!

dj-padman1 responds:

You know, I totally agree with you about the genre. I just had a mental blank when I posted it I guess.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the review!

This gives me an idea..

Well, first of all, this is yet another excellent piece. As always, the instrumentation is very well balanced. I'll disagree with those that say the drums are too loud, because having them in the front gives it a driving feel, necessary for a battle work. On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to boost the background violin arpeggio in the left channel a tad.
As for the idea, have you ever thought of doing a DnB/Classical fusion piece?
A little light glitchwork, some heavy bass, and I think you could have the most kickass musical combo ever made.

MaestroRage responds:

It's a real possibility and i've secured myself some excellent kick/timpini/snares. All that is left is to find some good saws and heavy bass. I do want to try and make some DnB, it would be good practice from trying to fill everything with a melody.

In any case, thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it, thanks again for the idea. I will definately take it seriously.

Beautiful work there

Damn zero-voters, this song should be in the number 1 slot of the top 5. I have to wonder, what are you using? The guitar and piano sound so realistic.. very professional sound you have going. Nice chill feel, the funky bass is definitely a plus.. Vocoder work isn't bad either, you continue to improve there. (I still like to listen to Exaggerate, wish I hadn't sent my MP3 player through the wash...)
Hmm.. the snare isn't as bad as it seems really, I think it is made noticeable simply because everything else in the song sounds so good.
Another 5, if this was submitted earlier in the week, I bet the entire army of zero-voters couldn't hold it down.

Tangy.

This track really sounds nice, there is an excellent atmospheric feel to it, whilst it retains a trancy flow. I'm excited to hear the final version already.
The percussion is simple, yet extremely appealing.
Maybe you could work a nice break out of the high synth melody, rearranging it a bit.
A little light glitchwork would really make a nice build, I like the light bass synth in my left ear, kinda 303ish, with a slap bass feel to it.
You should definitely work something into the piano line you have there, give the song some progression, although I like how it is tying things together.
As for the strings, maybe switch from the whole note measure by measure progression to one in half notes, or sustain portions of the chord all the way through the measure, but switch out notes on the chords halfway through the measure.
Those are all the suggestions I can think of the moment, good luck with the final song!

Warm

I like the sounds you have here. The melodies flow very well, and compliment each other extremely well.
Is that the string theory Vsti in the background? It sounds kinda like it. There isn't really anything constructive I can say here, because I can't find much of a problem with anything.. a slight hiss at the top of the spectrum, but it's not a big deal. Anyways, another 5, keep up the good work!

cornandbeans responds:

wooaaaa :D
nice ear, man! There's like 6 instruments playing at the beginning, so for you to pick it out, that's pretty good. :) The hisses are probably my errors during mastering... Maybe a little to many highs, eh? :P Thanks for the review, anyway.

Smooth as glass

I wish that I you had finished this before I made a DrumNBass mix for my car, because this would be on it. Nice glitchwork, and a good solid beat you got there. Maybe increase the lows a bit more, that's about all I have for constructive criticism.
Overall, a tight track. I hope to hear more like this in the future.

dj-padman1 responds:

nah, the cops would pull you over for noise pollution.
Please send me half of the cost of a police ticket in your precinct.

Seriously though, you're dead right about the lows, the mix is a little bit limp. I've got no excuses, I should have re-evaluated it with a clear head!>!
Thanks man, always good to hear from you.

A delicious DnB sandwich

Your music is amazing. This is definitely no exception. You get my 5, not that you need it. The way you layer everything makes this a treat for the ears. There is so much going on, yet it is all clear, and makes musical sense... yet it is DnB. That is almost an oxymoron, but you made it work.
This track puts Paragon to shame.
Can't wait to hear more, keep it up.

cornandbeans responds:

Thanks man! I'm not too sure about the whole Paragon thing though, he's got a lot of talent and respect here. But I won't stop you from saying it. ;P

One of my inspirations to this track was Pendulum's "Hold Your Colour." That track combined the hardcore DnB elements with euphoric melodies, which blew me away. Thanks for picking up on that. ;)

And as always, thank you for the review!

~cornandbeans

btw, I'll take all the 5's I can get. :P

Amazing

I like all of your music, and you definitely put a lot of work into this. Everything flows well, and it sounds great. Now, one thing I noticed, is when you first cut the strings about halfway through and the bass comes in, on the left channel there seems to be some weird static or something. It is barely noticeable, but it took away from the clarity in that section of the song. Even still, this was extremely well put together. Take a look at my stuff when you get a chance, I'm always looking for reviews.

Floating..

That was a great track. It is really relaxing in how you use your synth. It is repetitive, but not in a bad way, but in a trance-like manner, I just drifted off listening to it. You got my five, keep it coming!

I live for the lulz. =D
