Peaceful.

Be emo all you want, as long as you make more songs like this. (But if you actually turn emo, I might have to kill you)
But really, nice song. I like how everything builds upon each other, and you used some great sounds making it. And when the melodies start to change around at the end, it sounds really cool, the high octave compliment on the main melody also went well.
The echo effect on the clap is great, the way everything comes together with the percussion gives the song a good sense of depth. Very fluid sound.
Maybe you could have added a few extra sounds to accent what you already have (like ocean waves, birds chirping, wind, etc.), but overall, this is excellent.

Sylacone responds:

Thanks Echoz, I dont know... maybe Ill go for the ambiance thing. Ill see.

Great Remix! ; ]

Glad to help you out of that bit of musician's block. I can't wait to hear what you make next.
This remix was well done, I like how you incorporated the original themes with new ones, and the percussion and filtering effects were top notch.

no, thank YOU. i needed to get out of a funk and this helped me immensely. thanks Echoz!

Warm.

This song just bathes the ears in sound. I like the different textures brought in by the pads you used. The kick would have had a better touch with a reverb effect attatched I think. I'm not sure what program you use.. (FL I think..) but if you use a VST-compatible host, like FL, then you would probably like this free VST called Cygnus, at www.krakli.co.uk This song reminded me of it, it can produce some amazing space-like pads, and is definitely worth checking out.
The piano also caught my attention, kinda reminded me of Mad World. Overall, great ambient piece, and I'd like to hear what other genres you can produce in.
5/5 -Echoz

P.S. Review my Beat is Coming demo if you get the chance, I'm waiting on feedback and it is almost finished.

Karco responds:

Hmm. That's a new way to describe this song...

The kick did, however, have a reeverb. The problem was, if I had made that reeverb too loud it would have sounded horrible, for some reason... so I only made it as loud as it could be without sounding that way.

Space-like pads, huh? I'm interested! =D I'll check that website out sometime.

Glad you like it... I plan to come back with a great song or two (as I'm on a bit of a break from FL currently) and you'll definitely hear what other genres I can produce in!

Sure, I'll review your song. I'll give you plenty of feedback... >=) Thanks for the review!

Well, this does need some work, but it is a true expression of musical thought, it just needs to fit a musical template.
I finished the tutorial I was working on, you can find it in the forums. It has a sound and .flp file attached, hopefully it will help you.
Now, back to this.. this would be like 5 times better if it fit to a beat, at least for the most part. I actually have difficulty figuring out the tempo listening to this, because it is too random. I am a big fan of randomness, as the use of abstract sound in music can make all the difference in turning a mediocre song into something great. However, without the solid musical base, it loses effect, and the overall sound suffers. I think with a little study of the way music is built, the originality you have will allow you to excel as an artist, so keep working at it. This is an improvement, and as you continue, it can only get better.
Good luck with your second piece, and keep me posted on your progress.

I'll be sure to continue makeing music and updateing you with everything I do. If you can Pm me a link to that toutorial I'd apprciate it. I need lots of work on melodies, but thanks for your review and I'll try to work on haveing a lead instrument. P.s the tempo was 120 =D

yay for fusion!

This sounded pretty good. I would ignore people that say to stick to one genre, because blending genres is what makes one unique. Especially making anything that falls into the "McTrance" category, considering that the genre was named after the company that made food standardized.
Now, I will say that this could definitely use some leveling/mastering. The ending was a tad weak, but the intro kicked ass. Maybe bring the kick down a tad, and lift up the hats a bit. That, and make an ending that justifies this song a bit better, and this song would be amazing.
Keep it up! 5/5

Thanks for the review!

I'm going to put up a full version soon.

Yay McDonalds! XD

A start, but this might help

Okay.. I'm going to try to help here.
For a start, you might want to build some complexity into the drums. In electronic music, a frequently used drumline consists of a bass drum that hits on every beat (on a 16 step sequencer, this would be 1, 5, 9, and 13) which is good to put into one pattern by itself, so you can more easily add breaks and builds into the playlist. Then, add a clap on every other beat(this would be steps 5 and 13). From there, add a hat on the offbeats (steps 3, 7, 11, and 15) This will give you the overused, but highly effective uhtse, ahtse sound that I'm sure you have heard. When you have more experience, feel free to ignore all of that, but for now give that a shot.
Then, you should consider a key to write in. (It wouldn't hurt to look up some music theory tutorials) Stick with a four beat time signature, this is default and very easy to work with. This places the strong beats at beat 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 can alternatively be used, as often happens in dance and pop music. As for the key, try using only white keys (no flats or sharps) which is C, or you can get an oriental sound by only using black keys (there are some white keys in this scale, but ignore them for now)
Next, you should write a bassline.
FL provides decent presets, although I prefer my own, these will work for a beginner just fine.
Go to channel presets, and choose classic 1. It has a nice retro 404 sound, and works well for this task. Now, depending on if you went with white or black notes, start with the third white note in the scale (third white from C or the second black note above it) then up to the fifth note (third black), then down to the third white note, or second black note, then up to the seventh white note, or fourth black note.
This is a cool bass line. Either go for the off beats here, or on beat, but spread it out so that there are four counts on each pitch.
Then you should write a melody, as a beginner, just stick to the notes you chose.
I'll try to make a file later and post the tutorial in the forum but I need to get to work.
When you have a good pattern set, you should combine them starting with the bass, then drums, then bring in the melody.
Good luck!

Alright, VERY helpful review and I'll keep you updated for upcoming tracks if you wish and I'll be sure to keep this review for future use as well.

Ohhh YEAH!!!

Heck yes!
this sounds like the soundtrack to a porno.
exactly what I wanted to hear.=P
Good job, nice wah work... now I've gotta figure out how to emulate that on my computer.. damn I need to get a better mic and some effect pedals..
This is a good example though, I think this contest is going to be extremely interesting, to say the least.
Guess I should start on mine...
But anyways, good luck man!

SineRider responds:

thanks man cant wait to hear yours

Tight as hell

kick-ass track ya got there.
There is a lot of diversity in the synth, very hard, whilst being laid back, I liked that.
Has a real nice industrial feel, probably should have gone in there, I feel that much more than DnB.
The retriggering and glitching you have in there sounds real good.
Definitely gotta say I like what I hear here.
5/5 keep up the good work!

dj-padman1 responds:

You know, I totally agree with you about the genre. I just had a mental blank when I posted it I guess.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the review!

This gives me an idea..

Well, first of all, this is yet another excellent piece. As always, the instrumentation is very well balanced. I'll disagree with those that say the drums are too loud, because having them in the front gives it a driving feel, necessary for a battle work. On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to boost the background violin arpeggio in the left channel a tad.
As for the idea, have you ever thought of doing a DnB/Classical fusion piece?
A little light glitchwork, some heavy bass, and I think you could have the most kickass musical combo ever made.

MaestroRage responds:

It's a real possibility and i've secured myself some excellent kick/timpini/snares. All that is left is to find some good saws and heavy bass. I do want to try and make some DnB, it would be good practice from trying to fill everything with a melody.

In any case, thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it, thanks again for the idea. I will definately take it seriously.

Warm

I like the sounds you have here. The melodies flow very well, and compliment each other extremely well.
Is that the string theory Vsti in the background? It sounds kinda like it. There isn't really anything constructive I can say here, because I can't find much of a problem with anything.. a slight hiss at the top of the spectrum, but it's not a big deal. Anyways, another 5, keep up the good work!

cornandbeans responds:

wooaaaa :D
nice ear, man! There's like 6 instruments playing at the beginning, so for you to pick it out, that's pretty good. :) The hisses are probably my errors during mastering... Maybe a little to many highs, eh? :P Thanks for the review, anyway.

I live for the lulz. =D
